WHEW! WHAT A TRIP!! a lot of people asked Katy and I why we chose Arkansas as our "last hooray!" and well.....we chose it for HotSprings thinking we could relax a week in the 140degree water of the natural springs. And I'm so glad we didn't just do that. When Katy and i are together we can make a party where ever we go and that's exactly what it was for 5 days. We landed in Little Rock spent the night for $60 bucks! Did you know that CoCo is a great negotiater! so starting of the trip with deals is always a good sign....I'm going to attempt a timeline...ready, Go! ( i also put a slide show together if you could care less to read)
spent the night in Little Rock
woke up ate free bagels and got on the road to Eureka Springs (up the Ozark's)
arrived to Eureka after I dug the seat outta my booty....that was a scary ride yall! (check out video of us going up mountain street)
it was off season in Eureka, we ate and drank at dang near every bar and hung with locals and a goat (see video of Goat playing according and Katy playing a wash board....)
woke up with a terrible hangover and headed back in to Berryville (most of the towns in AR are some sort of ville..) to the Cosmic Caverns. SO GLAD WE DID THIS! As we get older Katy is more of a wuss.
we head back down the mountain with no cell sevice which means no Siri telling us which way to turn with maps. thank God Katy brought an old school map, we would have been screwed and way out of the way up on a mountain with no gas
finally after a VERY VERY stressful drive we ended up in Hot Springs. Katy and I decided that the drive reminded us of East Texas, lots of trees, couple of gas stations and to be honest trashy garages with 234387028 cars piled up everywhere
Hot Springs was pretty cool . Glad we didn't do the whole five days there, it was DEAD being off season and everything. BTW that was the best time to go, bc you didn't have to wait long at all to get into the bath house. When you do go you get scrubbed down by a bath attendant. You are butt naked!!! WHAT!?!?!? I enjoyed it, it was def an experience.
we hung out and drank at The Ohio which was Al Capone's 'hot spot'. Bartender gave us some awesome tips for Memphis (our next stop) and some scoop on the bar/town. She mentioned a fake brick wall that was covering up the tunnels of Hot Springs. The gangsters would use it and Al would get this liquour from HS and train it up to Chicago during proabition. Some really cool history there that I had no idea.
finally we get to Graceland WOW. I have always wanted to go, because it's ELVIS!! I was in total awe I guess. You hear stories how incredible Elvis was and all that he accomplished, but it wasn't until I was standing in his house and his trophy room that I was just like WOW! If you ever get the chance to go, do it. OFF SEASON IS BEST! ZERO lines!! Katy and I had 4 other people walking the house with us. THAT"S IT! (google half off graceland tours! saved us money!!!)
Now, we head to Rendevouz BBQ in downtown Memphis. SONOFAGUN those were some dang good ribs!!!!!!
we finish of the night listening to a blues band and drinking on Beale street. WHAT A NIGHT! LAST HOORAY FOR SURE!
We passed out at 2:35 only to be woken up by the fire alarm at 5:30. watch the video for that craziness too. Apparently someone robbed the lobby of our hotel and pulled the fire alarm. seriously!?!?
now why was it our last hooray?? My husband and I are planning a family and hearing from you and watching my sister bust her booty being a great mom and all the sacrafices ya'll make all the time for your children. I know that it will be hard to just get up and leave and travel whenever the heck i want to! So we did it and acted a fool! get out and TRAVEL when you can. Even if it's road trips here in TEXAS!
